Hiring: Ph.D. Graduate Research Assistantship – Fall 2024
I'm looking for one full-funded Ph.D. student starting in Fall 2024. The ideal candidates should have an Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) background with solid computer programming skills (i.e., Python, C++, Java), AI/ML, computational analysis, spatial sensing data processing and analysis, and project experience. The following are preferred:
• Academic training and experience with advanced spatial sensing technologies (e.g., GPS, Wi-Fi, LiDAR, camera, radar, etc.), computer vision (e.g., YOLO), data and sensor fusion, AI/ML/DL, and control models (e.g., KF).
• Experience with human mobility modeling, shared and automated mobility, travel demand models, data processing and analytics, and spatial-temporal analysis; Familiarity with vehicle/traffic simulation, such as SUMO, CARLA, etc.
• College degree in general Engineerings, such as Computer Science and Engineering, Operations Research/Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, GIS, Transportation Engineering

Dr. Lei Zhu is an Assistant Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte). Dr. Zhu’s research includes human mobility and shared mobility system modeling and simulation, Wi-Fi and GPS data processing and analysis, and spatial sensing technologies. Highly self-motivated students with similar research interests are welcome to join our Smart Infrastructure and Mobility (SIM) lab in this exciting field to enhance Smart City and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).
